TACTILE CALM

This painting has had many lives.

It started with a cluttered mind and a composition I just couldn’t get into.
My perfectionism took over, so I put it aside. Months later, during a solo trip on the edge of a forest in the Netherlands, I grabbed a jar of brown acrylic paint and painted over the whole thing in a single solid color. No plan. Just getting started. Trying to tackle the perfectionist.

Layer by layer, I applied the paint with a palette knife until a texture emerged that began to come alive. Somewhere in that process, I outsmarted my inner perfectionist: not by striving for perfection, but by embracing the monotony. A single color covering the entire canvas, without any deliberate composition. Nothing to hide, nothing to prove.

Finally, I added a textile accent using embroidery thread, creating a dialogue between simplicity, color, and material.

This work was created in the silence of a meadow, while I was musing on life. To me, it represents a meditative process exploring presence, tactility, and inner peace—about letting go of what no longer feels right and trusting in what remains.
